The laundry room seems to be the messiest room in the house, no matter who I ask and no matter how big or small they are! But the smaller your laundry room, the more reason to keep it organized so the mess doesn’t overflow into the rest of the house.
Tip 1: Use shelves.
One or two shelves within arms’ reach will become your lifesaver in keeping your laundry room tidy. They will provide space to store your detergents, ironing supplies, and, in my case, dog towels and extra dog accessories.
Here’s a quick video showing how to organize your laundry shelves.
Tip 2: Use baskets or bins on your shelves.
In the video you noticed the homeowner placing some baskets on her shelves. These are an attractive way to store all the small things that look messy on shelves, drop down behind the washing machine, or just causes clutter in the rest of your house.
Personally, I use square bins that have labels on my shelf because it’s pretty high on the wall, so I need to know at a glance what is in each bin.
Tip 3: Put clean laundry away immediately.
Whether you have room to fold your laundry in the laundry room or even have space to iron in there, putting the clothes away immediately will drastically reduce your clutter (and prevent wrinkles!)
My personal pet peeve at the moment is my family putting dirty laundry directly into the laundry room, right on top of my dryer. This usually happens after working in the yard so the socks are filled with grass or exceptionally sweaty. Time to move a basket down there to capture all these pieces that don’t make it into the hampers upstairs!
